Liposuction

Liposuction, also called liposculpture, lipoplasty, or suction lipectomy, is a cosmetic surgery technique developed by
cosmetic surgeons to remove fat deposits that do not respond to dieting and exercise. These fatty bulges are found in the facial areas such as the chin, cheeks, jowls and neck. The surgery in the neck involves a small incision under the chin through which a dilute solution of local anesthesia is placed prior to liposuction. A small 2 mm cannula is then used to remove fat from a closely defined area. After surgery, a pressure garment which is worn to protect the area.

When the chin is normally positioned, a submental liposuction can restore a youthful appearance to the neck and usually makes you look and feel thinner. This minimally invasive procedure makes a visible and lasting change in appearance. Since most patients prefer to have liposuction performed under general anesthesia, we usually suggest that you consider having any complementary cosmetic procedures performed at the same time.
Patients best suited for liposuction are more nearly at normal body weight and have good skin elasticity and tone. If the jaw is very short, additional surgery may be necessary to lengthen the jaw to achieve the best results. In addition to liposuction to improve the appearance of the upper neck, the addition of a chin implant through the same incision makes significant enhancement. Both procedures are performed in the office under general anesthesia..
